A couple had the shock of their lives when a flying car came crashing through the wall of their first floor bedroom early yesterday morning.

The incident happened at 3am when a silver Lexus smashed into the side of a house in Bridge Road, Epsom, after the driver missed his turning off of Alexandra Road into Upper High Street.

The car demolished a post box and went airborne after smashing into an Audi TT and a Honda Jazz.

The car smashed its way through the couple’s bedroom wall before coming to a stop next to their bed.

An Epsom fire officer said that, after hitting the wall, the Lexus fell down and was left leaning against the building.

Despite huge damage to the house and the car the stunned couple were unhurt and the occupants of the vehicle escaped with only minor injuries.

Three men travelling in the Lexus were taken to Epsom Hospital for treatment.

A Surrey Police spokeswoman added: "It is believed that the car came round a bend on the approach to the address, mounting the front of an Audi parked outside before colliding with the side of the house.

"A number of other cars were also damaged as a result of the incident and a Royal Mail post box, a road sign and a fence were also destroyed.

"The cars have now all been recovered and a structural engineer was called to carry out an assessment of the property."

The couple and their daughter are believed to be staying with relatives nearby.

Anyone with information should call the police on 101 quoting incident reference number P12272468.
