Heavy rain floods Epsom's roads

The roundabout on the Shawley Way and Garlichill Road junction in Epsom was flooded
Drivers in Epsom met with the effects of heavy rain yesterday.
The roundabout on the junction of Shawley Way and Garlichill Road, Epsom, was flooded following a storm just after 7pm.
The Met Office advised drivers in the south east to check the weather forecast and road conditions before travelling yesterday and issued an amber alert that heavy rain and hail was on its way.
It also said there was a medium risk of significant flooding, particularly during rush hour.
The Highways Agency is working closely with the Met Office to monitor weather conditions and maintain safe roads and reliable journeys.
An Agency spokesperson said: "Drivers are advised to plan their journeys before setting out, check the weather and traffic conditions, leave extra time for their journeys if travel conditions are poor, and delay their journey if the weather becomes severe.
"There are times during sudden and torrential downpours when standing water can collect on carriageways and residual water can result in very thick spray.
"Drivers should slow down in wet conditions and take extra care.
"Driving too quickly through water can cause aquaplaning and loss of control of your vehicle which can lead to accidents."
