A man accused of sexually abusing three girls secretly recorded himself raping one of them 10 years later, the Old Bailey heard on Tuesday.

Clifford Lown, 49, of St Leonards Road, Epsom, allegedly blackmailed the woman into sex by threatening to report her to social services and have her children taken away.

The videotape only emerged after the victim went to police and accused him of sexually abusing her between the ages of 12 and 14 in the mid 1990s.

Lown handed the recording to his lawyers after she denied they had an affair when she was in her early 20s.

The woman, who cannot be identified, was then forced to admit they had sex but said she had been too ashamed to admit it.

Prosecutor Lydia Barnfather described the video as "disturbing" and told jurors they would have to watch it as part of the case.

She said: "What some of you may find disturbing is her behaviour.

"The incident is far from a mutually consensual act.

"The two enter the room and somewhat robotically she removes her lower clothing and lies on the bed and puts a pillow on her face.

"She says she didn't want to but did so to avoid losing her children."

Lown is also accused of sexually abusing another girl between 1987, when she was aged nine, and 1994.

Both sets of allegations came to light in 2010 after Lown was accused of sexually assaulting a third victim, a nine-year-old girl.

Lown denies two counts of indecency and three counts of rape relating to the first victim between 1993 and 1996 and a fourth count of rape relating to the incident on September 8, 2004.

He also denies indecency with a child and five counts of indecent assault on the second victim between 1987 and 1994.

Lown further denies sexually assaulting the nine year-old girl between October 14 and October 30, 2010.

The trial continues.
