Taxi driver breaks silence over "dark figure"
9:30am Tuesday 20th March 2012 in News By Lauren May, Chief Reporter
A taxi driver has corroborated the sighting of "a dark figure" in Epsom last month but has played down its significance.
The man, who works with NV cars in Sutton has been on holiday since the mysterious sighting on February 14 on the Ewell bypass near Nescot College.
His passengers reported seeing a dark figure cross the road in front of the taxi at about 10.30pm before leaping a 15ft bank.
They were amazed by what they saw and likened the figure to the legendary Spring Heeled Jack.
Since the story broke it has been one of the top stories on our websites attracting thousands of hits and comments from ghost hunters around the world.
Their suggestions for the sighting range from a haunted road, apparition, scientific phenomena, and an alien life form to Spring Heeled Jack himself - a mysterious dark figure reported to be responsible for a string of attacks in the 1800s and known for his ability to leap great heights and spit blue flames.
This week the taxi driver said he could not understand what all the fuss is about and refused to speak publicly about what he saw.
He admitted that what he saw was 'a bit odd' but said that he quickly got over it and did not believe there was anything supernatural involved.

'Since the story broke it has been one of the top stories on our websites attracting thousands of hits'
I would suggest before you start flaming/trolling you make sure you have read and understood the article.
to quote again:
'and comments from ghost hunters around the world'
at no point has there been any mention of the number of comments made, only that people from around the world have commented on this article.
Also to quote again:
'"I'm not usually one to be freaked by these sightings but the cab driver was petrified. He didn't want to drive back alone."
These were the words of his passenger NOT the taxi driver who has since announced that he does not understand what all the fuss is about.
Honestly you should learn to read before you begin to post pointless comments in an attempt to make yourself look/feel clever.

The original article said.... quote
"Since the story broke it has been one of the top stories on our websites attracting thousands of hits and comments from ghost hunters around the world."...
By using the word OUR websites implies that it is related to the Guardian's site so I would have expected comments to be directed towards that. How would they know comments have been made elsewhere?
AND... if YOU learnt to read before making a factual inaccuracy you would see that I actually said .....
quote... "Is this the same taxi driver from the original story of whom it was stated...."
Which actually says that the comment was made ABOUT the taxi driver and I did not imply that HE said it, it was a statement made referring to how the the driver allegedly felt at the time.
AND Trolling is a little bit different to making a comment on an item you feel is wrong.
Shame you could not understand why I commented on an issue I felt was not correctly represented and NOT in any way to try and look clever, no wonder you are cynical!

Is this the same taxi driver from the original story of whom it was stated....
"I'm not usually one to be freaked by these sightings but the cab driver was petrified. He didn't want to drive back alone." ?? The same driver who now says... "he could not understand what all the fuss is about".
And where are the thousands of comments this story has attracted? I had to scroll all the way back through the Epsom edition to find the original story.... with its 6 comments!
Another slow news day?
