A woman who claims she beat cancer thanks to an alternative therapy centre in Epsom said it was a “crying shame” that it may have to close.

Janice Day, 53, who was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 39, was offered six months of chemotherapy and a five year course of the drug Tamoxisen by consultants.

However after undergoing a mastectomy, she discovered the conventional treatment only increased her survival chances by five per cent - so instead she embarked on a programme of diet supplements, exercise and spiritual healers in a bid to beat the disease.

Now the Healing Centre on the Wells Estate where she was treated looks set to close because of rising rents and declining patient numbers.

She said: “ I can't understand why more people in these hard times are not availing themselves of this service.

“Largely because of healing I have survived for 15 years despite the prognosis of only a 50/50 chance of survival.

“I think it's a crying shame and utter madness that the local Healing Centre at The Wells is closing soon because of poor attendance.”

The centre, which has been run for 15 years by Amer Sarsson and his wife Judy, from Cheam, offers free treatment and healing subject to donation - but could be forced to close because of high rent prices and a decline in numbers.

Mr Sarsson said: “Lately we have had fewer and fewer people attend.

“Janice is a prime example of how the healing works. We don’t advise on how people should use the service, all we do is offer the treatment - it is up to the patient whether they want to use it in connection with other medication.”

The healing group is a member of NFSH which regulates alternative therapy in the UK.
