MP for Epsom and Ewell Chris Grayling has given a speech at the Epsom Conservative club about the budget and welfare reform.
Mr Grayling spoke to members of the Epsom and Ewell Conservative Future on Friday (June 25) about what has been dubbed the “most austere” emergency budget the UK has ever seen, announced by chancellor George Osborne last week.
The MP, who is also a Minister of State at the Department for Work and Pensions, spoke about the cuts to benefits announced by Mr Osborne, set to save the £11bn by 2014/15.
Mr Grayling said: “Every department affected by the cuts is going to have to make some difficult choices, and we will be working throughout the summer to work out the best way of delivering change without undermining key front line services.
“We have no doubt that the cost of the welfare state is going to have to come down, and we are looking at the best way to reform the system to deliver a fresh approach that is both fair and affordable, and also provides real incentives to people to get back into work.”
