WHEN Lewisham College students visited Holland recently, they were determined not to return through customs empty-handed.
And they were as good as their word, as the Bon Giorno Cup has taken pride of place in the college's trophy cabinet.
Inspired by former Auxerre forward Max Gradel, who bagged 11 goals and collected the player of the tournament award, the boys saw off opposition from sides drawn from across the Czech Republic, Germany and Holland.
The team also kept clean sheets in all seven games, earning Lijah Tucker the accolade goalkeeper of the tournament.
Gradel said: "We went there determined to collect the cup. After victory in our first game the team's confidence grew, and I knew we were on our way to winning the tournament."
The team's success was masterminded by Aaron Jacob, the college's head coach who succeeded Alex Inglethorpe, now manager of Exeter City.
He said: "I'm so proud of the players' performances. They've learned a lot, and matured into a highly organised outfit."
