Epsom pub serves up ice cream made with Battersea real ale

If the weather is hot and sunny it is worth dropping in to the White Horse pub for an ice cream with a difference – an icy treat made with real ale.

The ice cream is produced by artisan ice cream makers Sulqui from its premises in Battersea using ales from the Meantime Brewery. Sulqui pasteurise and age their ingredients in small batches for between four and 24 hours, which gives the fats enough time to break down and emulsify with the other ingredients.

Stuart Down, landlord of the White Horse in Dorking Road, Epsom, leapt at the idea when he read about it in the trade press. “We thought the idea was cool. We’re in for a long hot summer so what could be better than real ale ice cream in our beer garden?”
