An Iranian mother, who "loves prosecco" and pepperoni pizza, thought her daughter would have been "proud" to have a virginity test taken and would want to prove she was still a virgin after discovering Sophie Safaraei's, 18, secret boyfriend.

But she was "alarmed" when Sophia refused the test her husband, Ali Safaraei, 56, had ordered her to take "just to check if she had sex", Kingston Crown Court heard.

The mother also denied making death threats to boyfriend Bailey Marshall-Telfer, 18, after finding him escaping through the bathroom window of the family home in Clapham May 2018.

Sophia claimed she was threatened with a knife and scissors after her parents discovered her relationship with her workmate.

Eidiani, who swore on the Koran before giving evidence, told the court she moved to Britain with her husband in 1998.

She said she worked as a teaching assistant at Beatrix Potter school, in Earlsfield, when the allegations surfaced.

Asked by her barrister, John Skinner, if she drinks alcohol, she said: "I never drink alcohol in front of my daughters but I do sometimes when we have a school party, Christmas or Easter, they know I love prosecco."

Asked if she eats pork, she added: "I don't like pork but I love pepperoni on my pizza."

Eidiani said she discovered the pair at her home after leaving work early for a dentist appointment.

She claimed Sophia was "nervous" and she discovered Mr Marshall-Telfer's headphones in the bathroom.

Eidiani claimed she then looked from the bathroom window and saw a boy in a "school suit".

She said: "He was stood up and I saw him pulling up or zipping up. He was doing something with his trousers."

Eidiani told jurors she took a picture of Mr Marshall-Telfer for "evidence" before he left the house.

Safaraei then arrived at home shortly after and demanded his daughter take a virginity test, the jury heard.

Eidiani said: "I said 'I have to tell you something but you need to calm down and listen.

"When I came in I found Sophia with someone here. I don't know what they have been doing.' "I heard Ali from somewhere around the kitchen asking me to take Sophia to the doctor."

Eidiani added: "Because Sophia said we have not done anything, he asked me to take her just to check if she had sex or she was happy about it."

She added: "I thought maybe if I take her to doctor to do that check again and then she proudly say to dad I have not done that."

But when the family arrived at the appointment later that afternoon, Dr Helen Lucas declined to carry out the check because Sophia did not give permission.

Eidiani told the jury: "At that time I was alarmed something happened, definitely she had sex, that's why she was frightened to do it maybe."

It is alleged she and Safaraei then visited Mr Marshall-Telfer at work and threatened to kill him over the affair.

Eidiani said he "recognised" her as she walked into the Sports Direct store where he had met Sophia, and walked away.

But she approached him again shortly after and told the court: "I call him, 'excuse me, 'he came to me and I told him that 'do you know me?' "He said 'yes', and 'do you know why I'm here?' 'No.' "I am here to ask him first, 'why Sophia?' And he said because she's beautiful, she's a nice girl.

"He came to my house with no permission.

"'You know that I'm Muslim, I'm from a different culture, maybe your culture lets you sneak to people's house and be with someone but my culture says you need to introduce yourself to me before.'"

She denied she threatened to kill Mr Mashall-Telfer but told him not to speak to Sophia again.

She claimed she told him: "'You don't come to my house, you didn't introduce yourself to our family in the right way so you need to stay away from my daughter.'"

Safaraei and Eidiani deny two counts of controlling or coercive behaviour and one count of making a threat to kill.

Eidiani also denies one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Eidiani pleaded guilty to one count of criminal damage, related to the headphones, at an earlier hearing.

The trial continues.
