An ATM was stolen from a Banstead bank during a ram raid in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The cash machine was removed using a digger, which was also believed to be stolen, at the Barclays Bank in High Street just before 2am.

There is now extensive damage to the building, and to the ATM which was abandoned on a nearby roundabout.

It is not clear at this time if the thieves were successful in obtaining any money.

Surrey Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the ram raid or the digger theft, or anyone who was in the area in the moments before the incident.

In particular, CCTV shows two individuals sat on a bench close by who may be able to give us further information on the other vehicles used by the thieves - believed at this time to be a dark coloured convertible BMW and a Land Rover Defender.

Police also wish to speak with anyone who saw the two vehicles travelling to or from Banstead (possibly at speed) in the early hours of this morning.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to contact Surrey Police on 101 (999 in an emergency) quoting reference PR/45180093974. If you would prefer to provide information anonymously, this can be done through the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling them on 0800 555 111.
