Work has begun on a new £1.2m sports ground on Old School’s Lane in Ewell, which will include grass pitches, an astroturf and a new clubhouse.

Epsom Sports Club expects the new facilities will be ready by September.

The club is also raising funds to build a new £800K clubhouse in addition to the ground, of which it has already raised £200K.

Drew Russell, chairman of Epsom Sports Club said: “We’re so excited that the wait is over to start building! Old Schools Lane will bring top class sporting facilities for the whole Sports Club and local area.

“We want to attract more playing members from across Epsom and Ewell and entice more to get involved in sport - we already have a number of local schools signed up to use the all weather pitch.”

Mark Hill, community sports development officer at Epsom & Ewell Borough council said: “Epsom Sports Club have always been really supportive of community events such as the Surrey Youth Games and are always keen to help.”
