A Banstead pensioner has had her sentimental jewellery stolen during a distraction burglary.

On Monday a man knocked at the victim's home in the Park Road area, claiming there was a water leak.

He entered the property and while the homeowner was distracted, he is believed to have ventured upstairs, before leaving with sentimental jewellery.

The man is described as white with short, fair hair, around 5ft 10in tall, of a medium build and wearing a grey t-shirt and a flat cap.

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Simon Gray, said: “The man we’d like to identify is thought to have been on foot and left in the direction of Woodmansterne Lane, so we’re hoping that cameras in the local area will have captured him.

"We need residents and businesses along Park Road with CCTV to check their footage as soon as possible.

“Similarly, if you were driving in the area between 1.30 and 2.30pm on Monday, June 25, please check any dash camera footage you may have captured.
