Banstead students named as two of the best in the country

William Lumbard was named recently named 'sports pupil of the year' while Isabella Hurley took out 'overall pupil of the year' at United Learnings ‘best in everyone’ primary school awards.

Delighted with how the Banstead Prep School kids finished was headteacher Vicky Ellis.

"We are incredibly proud of William and Isabella on their achievements," she said.

"As a brand new school – open for less than a year – we are thrilled that two of these coveted awards have been given to our pupils.

“William has an enthusiastic attitude to all his activities and contributes significantly to the sporting programme at Banstead Prep.

"Isabella is a fantastic role model for the entire school community.

"She is conscientious about her work, makes a significant contribution to our school and exudes an infectious enthusiasm that permeates all aspects of school life.”

William was nominated for the award for excelling across a wide range of sports including hockey, football, rugby, cricket and swimming.

His recent achievements include playing for the winning Reigate and Banstead hockey team at the Surrey Youth Games and playing for the A team at Banstead Cricket Club.

William has also been selected to play for the south east of England prep school football team and will travel to Sweden this summer to compete in the Gothia World Cup.

“The day was great," William said.

"And it was nice to be able to share it with my parents.”

Isabella was nominated by her teachers for her positive attitude to all aspects of school life, her supportive attitudes towards others, her willingness to take on responsibility and her desire to excel.

As well as participating in a wide range of extracurricular activities including playing team sports and singing in the choir, Isabella contributes to school life as a house leader.

“It was a really enjoyable day, especially the bus tour," Isabella said.

"I saw lots of London that I’d never seen before.”
