A ray of sunny yellow tee-shirt wearers walked around Ruxley Church's parish to raise money to create a "garden of reflection".

Once created, the garden will be a space with a patio, raised flower beds, seats and pillars that locals can have plaques fitted to to remember loved ones.

It will

About 80 people of all ages took part in the church's first ever sponsored walk on June 9, with routes of between 1.5 miles and four miles.

They walked along Ruxley Lane, Chessington Road, along the Hogsmill and by Ewell Court Park, with the event being started by Mayor of Epsom and Ewell Councillor Neil Dallon.

At the end, the group joined together for a picnic on the Green, with many children having their faces painted.

The youngest walker was three-year-old Bruce, the teenage group ran the entire distance, and other participants included Sheila in her motorised vehicle, walkers with alpine sticks, bike riders and several dogs.

One of the dogs, Molly, raised £45.

The group raised £3,000 on the day, but most sponsorship has not come in yet.
