A man in his fifties suffered a broken jaw when he was assaulted at a car boot sale in Hook Arena.

The attack happened at about 12.30pm on Sunday, April 22, when the victim was putting items in the back of his car.

He heard someone call his name, and as he turned he was punched in the jaw several times.

The attacker and another man then got away at speed in a white Ford transit van.

The victim went to St George's Hospital, where the broken jaw was confirmed.

DC Richard Stoneham said: "This appears to be a vicious, unprovoked attack on a man who was simply attending a car boot sale on a Sunday afternoon and it’s something we won’t tolerate.

"We know that members of the public came to help the victim at the time and we would like to speak to them to see if they have further information which can help us progress our investigation and find the person responsible.”

Police are asking anyone with information to call 101, quoting reference PR/45180042131.
