Leatherhead pupils took second place in a national singing competition that raised £37,000 to support vulnerable children.

The choir from St John’s School placed just behind a school from Thatcham in Berkshire in the under-18s category.

Performers sang two songs to a judging panel before choosing one to perform for an audience at a concert later that evening when the winners were announced.

All money raised will go to Barnardo’s, a charity that helps vulnerable children, young people, parents and carers across the country.

Barnardo’s chief executive Javed Khan said: “This was a wonderful evening of music performed by some talented young Barnardo’s supporters. Congratulations to the winning schools and well done to everyone who competed.

“We are so grateful for all of the hard work they put into their rehearsals. It certainly paid off and raised an incredible amount of money too.”
