One of Richmond's major bus routes will be getting a more environmentally friendly vehicle.

The new hybrid bus - which emits less than half the carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide of other diesel buses - is set to be used by TfL on the 267 from Hammersmith to Fulwell via Twickenham.

Richmond Council said that while having a fully 'green' bus service was still a couple of years away, it welcomed this first step on the ladder.

It is hope that this summer the 216 through Hampton will be serviced by buses using 'stop-start' technology which cuts of the engine while idling, thus reducing emissions.

Councillor Peter Buckwell, Richmond Council's cabinet member for highways and street scene, said: "We aspire to be the cleanest and greenest borough in London, so this is great news."
