A 93-year-old Banstead man has been scammed out of more than £3,200.

Surrey Police said the unsuspecting pensioner was phoned up and told his card had been compromised and would need to be changed immediately.

The con-artist told him to wait for a courier who would pick up his card later in the day, in a type of con known as ‘courier fraud’.

He was also persuaded to give away his PIN after being told the new card would have the same number if he could confirm it.

The bank card was handed over to the so-called courier between 12.30pm and 1pm on November 29.

The card was used at an electrical store and an ATM in Croydon before the victim cancelled the cards. By this time he had lost thousands.

If you know a vulnerable person who could become a victim to this type of fraud, help them be aware that a bank would never ask for a PIN over the phone.

Surrey Police believe the man in these photos may be able help their investigation so if you recognise him, contact them on 101 with reference PR/45170132978.
