Children from Woodlands School in Leatherhead took over the roles of school nurses as part of the Children’s Commissioner Takeover Day 2017.

The pupils used professional equipment to carry out blood pressure readings and height measurements as well as temperature and eye examinations on nurses and their classmates yesterday (November 27).

The Takeover Challenge puts young people into decision-making positions and encourages organisations and businesses to hear their views.

Sarah Baker, from Children and Family Health Surrey, said: “Children have a lot to offer. Their ideas are often sharper, more concise and spontaneous than those of adults.

“This annual event is a fantastic opportunity to really get children involved in the world of work, and to showcase how things happen behind the scenes and the difference their contribution makes.”

Originally launched in 2007, Commissioner’s Takeover has involved hundreds of organisations and thousands of young people getting involved, having fun, learning new skills and exercising their right to speak up on the issues that affect them.
