A 65-year-old man who threw a glass tumbler that struck a woman's face has been jailed for 15 months.

The victim suffered "serious facial injuries" from the incident at the Centrals Bar and Lounge, Central Road, Worcester Park, on June 30.

Anthony Jacklin, 65, from Sutton, handed himself in to Sutton Police Station on July 3. He pleaded guilty at Croydon Crown Court on October 10 to grievous bodily harm.

Police say the victim was arguing with Jacklin, who she knew through a friend, before staff intervened to calm the situation.

A police spokesman said: "The argument flared again and ended with the man throwing a glass tumbler that bounced on the bar and hit the woman in the face. The victim required surgery to remove one of the pieces of the glass.

"Luckily incidents like this are rare in Sutton, but this is an example of how severe the consequences can be, and the damage that can be caused when an argument flares and someone loses control just for one moment."

The victim and the perpetrator have been banned from licensed premises which are signed up to the Behave or be Banned scheme.
