A man was stabbed opposite Epsom train station, suffering a serious injury to his stomach.

The attack took place in Station Approach at about 10.20pm on Friday, September 29.

A witness said she saw the man lying on the ground after being stabbed.

She said: “He looked in his late 20s or early 30s, and had loads of people with him, holding his hands, and they had put folded up newspaper on the bleeding.

“He looked as if he was on his way out.”

Police said the man and his friends became involved in an argument with the suspects that quickly escalated into a physical confrontation, before one of the suspects attacked him with a knife.

He was taken to St George’s Hospital and was reported to be in a stable condition after the suspects had run off up the road towards West Street.

A 17-year-old boy from Epsom has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

Two 16-year-old boys, also from Epsom, have been arrested on suspicion of affray.

All three have been released from custody, but must return on October 25.

Surrey Police is appealing for information.
