CCTV images have been released showing a man police want to speak to about the robbery of 84-year-old woman in Worcester Park.

The woman was walking through a tunnel under the railway lines into Lynwood Drive on September 7 at 1.57pm when an unknown man pushed her to the ground and ripped her handbag from around her neck.

Her purse was inside the handbag.

The woman suffered a suspected broken bone in her back and a broken finger in the mugging.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Colin Snell said: “We want to reassure the public that we are doing everything we can to identify the person responsible for the cowardly robbery of an elderly woman, leaving her with multiple injuries.”

Anyone with information about the incident or the man in the CCTV images is asked to call 101 or visit report.police.uk and quote reference 45170098611, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Surrey Police is also issuing safety advice following the incident.

Det Con Snell said: “I would advise if you have to walk, avoid short cuts in lonely areas. Please also keep to well-lit busy streets, and consider carrying a personal attack alarm.”
