Surrey Police is appealing for two witnesses to come forward after a constable was assaulted in Epsom.

A man has since been charged in connection with the assault in Hazon Way, Epsom at about 4pm yesterday (Wednesday, July 26).

Two witnesses assisted the officer after the attack, and Surrey Police wish to speak to them.

The Epsom Guardian asked the force for more details of the nature of the attack, but was only advised that no weapons were used.

Thomas Barnes, 20, of West Hill, Epsom has since been charged with assaulting a constable in the execution of duty, obstructing a constable in execution of duty and using threatening behaviour with intent to provoke unlawful violence, the force also confirmed.

Mr Barnes was granted bail and will next appear at Guildford Magistrates' Court on August 25.
