Children have been walking through gardens and garages on the way to school to avoid the water after a leaking pipe flooded a footpath.
There has been a pool of water, several inches deep, in the path running alongside Peter Collins’ house in Albert Road, Epsom for more than a week.
But despite reporting it to Thames Water on Monday, June 19, and despite engineering technicians being sent to inspect it, the 10-foot puddle is still there.
A Thames Water spokesman said it would normally be the property owner's responsibility to fix it, but the company has now offered to repair the leak.
“Kids are going to school through this,” the 75-year-old, former oil fitter said.
“Sometimes we have to let them through our back garden and through our garage on the way to school.”
Neighbour Neil Mirtle braves the raging torrents
A Thames Water spokesman said: “We sent a team of engineers to investigate reports of a leak on Albert Road, and found it originated from a pipe on a private property.
“It’s normally the responsibility of the property’s owner to repair a leak such as this, but we’ve offered to repair it ourselves free of charge, as a gesture of goodwill.”
