A cyclist has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a lorry ‘loaded with tarmac’.

The man suffered injuries to his head, thorax, forearm, hand and thigh after the crash near the junction of Horton Lane and Oakwood Avenue, Epsom on Monday afternoon.

Paramedics from the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance were called to the junction near Clarendon Park at 1.30pm and took the man to St George’s Hospital in Tooting.

He was cycling in the north-east lane of Horton Lane when he was hit by a “cargo-type lorry loaded with tarmac”, a police spokeswoman advised.

Surrey Police is appealing for information about the crash.
