Thousands of pounds was raised for charity as hundreds of painted plastic ducks raced down the Hogsmill last weekend.
Families lined the banks of the river and enjoyed picnics and face-painting as Ewell Court Residents’ Association (ECRA) held its eighth annual duck race on Saturday, May 6.
Despite low river levels after a dry April, hundreds of ducks managed to complete the course.
The RA sold 300 ducks on race day, and more than 200 ‘corporate ducks’ to local businesses before the event, ECRA chair Kerrie Baker told the Epsom Guardian. More than 1,800 ducks raced in total.
And with donations from businesses from around Epsom and Ewell, about £2,000 was raised for Casey children’s ward at Epsom Hospital.
Donations will also be made to 1st Ewell Scouts and Epsom Girl Guides, while some of the proceeds will go towards funding next year’s race.
