Commuters on the M25 were faced with more than 90 minutes delays after a motorcycle crashed at Chertsey.
Queues tailed back towards junction 9 at Leatherhead after the crash at junction 11 at Chertsey.
Three lanes were closed after the serious accident on the clockwise carriageway just before 7am.
A Surrey Police spokesman said: "The collision took place on the clockwise carriageway between J10-11 involving a car, a Nissan QASHQAI, and a motorbike.
"South East Coast Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance Service were in attendance.
"The motorcyclist, a man in his 20's, was taken to hospital by land ambulance.
"The motorway was closed in both directions between J10-11 to allow the helicopter to land. Road closures were opened at around 8.20am."
Drivers on the A3 were also affected with congestion tailing back through Cobham and West Byfleet.
