A former overall winner of the Epsom and Ewell Business Awards has been rated outstanding by a health watchdog.

Home Instead Senior Care, a care home service based in South Street, Epsom, was given the highest rating possible by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) after its most recent inspection – the first care provider in the borough to achieve this.

Staff developed friendly and caring relationships with people and went the extra mile to provide compassionate and empowering care and support, inspectors wrote after the assessment in November.

Inspectors rated Home Instead Senior Care ‘Outstanding’ for being caring, responsive to people’s needs and well-led and ‘Good’ for being safe and effective.

Staff used innovative ways to overcome challenges to support people’s life choices, and also helped people feel comfortable in their community and helped give them the confidence to maintain their social interactions, by meeting up with old friends, for example.

CQC inspectors were also impressed with Home Instead, which provides care in homes across Epsom and Mole Valley, for its charity and community work.

From November 2015: Elderly care providers Home Instead win top gong at glittering Epsom and Ewell business awards bash

Home Instead Senior Care, which was named best overall business at the Epsom and Ewell Business Awards in 2015, holds workshops to raise awareness of how to care for people living with dementia and supports charities within the borough.

Caregiver and mother-of-two, Sheena Reeve said: “It’s a great organisation to be part of. I love working here. I like the values and the fact that they genuinely care about the clients.

“They care about their caregivers too, as the ‘troops on the ground’, who are delivering dignified care that makes a difference to so many older people’s lives.”

Deborah Ivanova, Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care at the CQC, said: “The service demonstrated excellent person-centred care with a strong commitment to putting people at the heart of the service.

“We were delighted to see how the strength of leadership shone through all aspects of this outstanding service. It recruited staff who showed empathy, dedication and a passion to make a real difference to people’s lives.

“In turn, people had positive relationships with staff. Staff felt privileged to be able to care for and help support people to remain independent.”
