An elderly couple were more than more than £1,000 worse off over Christmas after falling victim to a fraudster.
The couple from Ewell received a phone call, purportedly from Santander bank in Epsom High Street, on Friday, December 9.
The caller stated there was an issue with the couple’s credit and debit cards, which needed to be returned and reissued.
Shortly afterwards, at about 11am, a man came to the door, claiming to be a courier from the bank, and collected the cards.
Officers traced the cards, before they could be cancelled, to HSBC and Barclay’s banks in Banstead High Street.
The fraud cost the couple £1,400.
Surrey Police today released a CCTV still of a man who used the cards in Banstead High Street between 12.45pm and 1pm.
To offer information, call Surrey Police on 101, quoting crime reference number 45160109400.
