After 32 years Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium will play host to its last-ever annual charity race night for a group which sends disabled and disadvantaged children to Lourdes.
Hosanna House and Children’s Pilgrimage Trust (HCPT), which has held a race night every year since 1985, aims to raise £15,000 as it bids farewell to the stadium on the evening of Saturday, November 26
John Flood, of Dorking Road, Epsom, won the Papal Medal, the highest honour for non-clergy members by the Catholic Church, in March for his work with the charity.
The 69-year-old said: “For 31 years the HCPT race night has been an overwhelming success and raised sufficient funds for 1000 disabled and disadvantaged children to have a holiday of a lifetime in Lourdes.
“The last-ever HCPT Race Night should be the thrilling climax of this success, an occasion not to be missed as part of Wimbledon Stadium's swansong.
“Now we are looking for an alternative fundraising event to enable us to continue what the dogs have done for HCPT since 1985. Maybe AFC Wimbledon can come to our rescue.”
Tickets are available from tickets@racenight.org.uk, ranging from an ‘executive suite’ at £50 per head for parties of 24 people, tables for four in the restaurant at £41 per head and £13 per head for the stadium’s ‘six-pack’ tickets.
