Young eager readers celebrated their love of literature at Stoneleigh Community Library last week after completing a summer book reading challenge.

More than 200 children aged four to 11 completed the challenge of reading six books over the summer holiday.

They were invited to the library in Stoneleigh Broadway on September 24 to enjoy cake and squash, a Roald Dahl-themed treasure hunt, and the mayor of Epsom and Ewell, Councillor George Crawford, serenading them on the ukulele.

The keen bookworms also got to meet a world champion model aircraft flyer.

Paul Eisner showed the children his gold medal from this year’s F2A fixed-line model aircraft speed championships and spoke about the importance of never giving up when trying to achieve your dreams.
