A newsagent has decided to take his entire stock of tobacco home with him at night after thieves broke into his shop and stole cigarettes worth £15,000.

Subesh Yogarajah, 38, also lost £1,500 in cash from under the counter of his Abi Express store in Worcester Park, during the burglary.

Three thieves raided the Central Road shop after breaking in through a barred window above between 2am and 2.30am on Sunday.

Devastated Mr Yogarajah now takes his tobacco products home when he closes up for the night in case burglars strike again.

He said: "It was devastating to find this had happened, but what can you do?

“The police have CCTV images, and hopefully they will track these people down as soon as possible.”

“I have had a delivery of cigarettes since, after they took everything, but now I take them all home with me at the end of the day.

"You never know, they might come back.”

Police are still hunting the burglars, who left the building through the same window through which they entered.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
