The Leatherhead Festival committee and Mole Valley District Council hosted its annual duck race at the River Mole, raising nearly £3,000 to fund the town’s Christmas Festival.

Councillor Charles Yarwood, executive member for property, parking and economic development, said: “It was fantastic to see so many residents from all over the district, including a great many young children, enjoying themselves at this always popular annual event.

“The duck race always proves to be a great day out and It was great to see people take advantage of the shops, restaurants and pubs in the town, too.”

Prizes for those who picked the winning ducks included a £40 dining voucher, tickets to Bocketts farm, and a family train ride voucher.

The £150 raised from the swan race went to Sight for Surrey, the 2016 Swan Centre charity. The money will be used to support the partially-sighted, blind, and deaf-blind in Surrey.

While the ducks were racing along the River Mole on Sunday, participants in the Duck Trails competition raced through Leatherhead to find large, ‘nesting’ ducks in shops along the High Street.

Those who located each duck were entered into a prize draw, which offers a £20 gift voucher.
