Fears that a serial cat killer has struck again in Kingston have arisen after a decapitated cat’s head was found in Worcester Park.

Campaigners from the South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty (Snarl) group, which has fought over several months to prove that the so-called ‘Croydon cat killer’ is real, said it found the mutilated head in Hampton Road last night.

Three days ago another body, of a cat named Hero, was found in the KT2 post code, according to the group’s leader Boudicca Rising.

Monday, April 4: 'We feel totally violated': Decapitated pet found in Kingston believed to be latest victim of Croydon cat killer

In April a cat called Lulu was found decapitated outside a home near Ham.

Metropolitan Police officers have sunk some 1,000 hours into an investigation called Operation Takahe, designed to catch the supposed killer.

Snarl claims the killer is responsible for the deaths of more than 50 cats across London.

Hero’s family said in a statement: “We wanted our children to have the same experience of living with pets as we had had growing up and we finally agreed to getting a cat following a long running campaign.

“Unfortunately, Hero decided to go for a wander, bumped into a troubled and unhinged individual and never came back. We later found his body in a local wood - minus his dignity.

“All of us have been absolutely distraught at the loss of him. We have had to explain that the world is a sometimes dark place to our children and that bad things do happen.

“Life goes on, but ours is genuinely the poorer for the loss of Hero and the manner of his being taken has left us angry and confused.

“These are not just animals, they are dearly loved family members and this dark threat must be removed from our community.”

Snarl has worked with police and the RSPCA to test the bodies of cats it believes were victims of a killer.

The Met is currently looking into the latest reports, a spokesman said today.

Animal rights campaign group PETA is offering a £5,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the killer.
