Mole Valley District Council has bought Leatherhead’s Swan Centre – one of the key sites earmarked for regeneration as part of a plan to transform the town.

The council launched a consultation for its Transform Leatherhead project in March 2015.

A Draft Masterplan was published in February and involves plans to renovate the Swan Centre, as well develop the site at Bull Hill and create a riverside park.

Nick Gray, deputy chief executive at MVDC, said: “We are delighted to announce the acquisition of the Swan Centre- this is a significant component of the Draft Masterplan for Leatherhead town centre.

“Thousands of residents have made it very clear that they want to see the centre significantly improved as part of the wider Transform Leatherhead project. Without their support this acquisition would not have been possible.”

The idea to remodel the Swan Centre (pictured below) was supported by more than 94 per cent of residents who responded to the consultation.

Councillor Gray added: “Along with the key acquisition of Claire and James House we are now in a strong position to implement the schemes that will transform Leatherhead town centre.

“There is still a lot of work ahead, but we have made a great start in delivering against the objectives and expectations of residents.”

Exhibitions of the Final Draft Masterplan will be held at:

The Leatherhead Theatre on April 16 and 30 between 10am and 4pm; 

Therfield School on April 27 between 3pm and 5pm; 

North Leatherhead Community Centre on May 7 between 1pm and 3pm; 

and at St Johns School Leatherhead on May 14 between 11am and 3pm.
