Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) has extended an invitation to residents to volunteer to clean up their area to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
The nationwide three-day initiative – called ‘Clean for the Queen’ – is being taken on by Mole Valley to inspire people to give up their time to pick up litter between March 4 and 6.
Councillor Michelle Watson, executive member for environment, said: “This is a really fantastic initiative for our communities to get involved in and help clear litter.
“It’s such a horrible eye sore and of course has such a detrimental effect on the district’s environment.
“We are very lucky to live in such a beautiful area and I know that litter is a subject very close to our residents’ hearts.”
To show their support for the event, a number of MVDC staff will be out litter picking on 4 March as part of the internal volunteering scheme.
The project comes hot on the heels of MVDC’s ‘Keep it Clean’ campaign launched in July last year, which was a concerted effort to clean up the district.
It focused on fly-tipping, dog-fouling, littering and graffiti.
