An epilepsy specialist midwife has won a regional award after being nominated by a grateful Banstead mum.

Clair Cobbold, 31, nominated her midwife Kim Morley for the Emma’s Diary Mums’ Midwife of the Year 2016 to thank her for her support in the birth of son Benjamin.

Ms Cobbold, of Horsecroft Road, Banstead, said she received very little support for her epilepsy during her first pregnancy and experienced a traumatic labour while giving birth to her daughter, and so sought help for the birth of her second child.

Kim Morley, England’s only epilepsy specialist midwife, works at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital and helped Ms Cobbold have a more comfortable birth in October 2015.

Ms Morley won the award for the south of England region at the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Annual Midwifery Awards.

Ms Cobbold said: “I am so glad Kim won, she's incredible and doesn't realise how amazing she is.

“This is a great way to acknowledge all she has done for us and other women with epilepsy.

“Thanks to Kim’s guidance and giving us the reassurance and confidence we needed, I had an amazing experience when giving birth to my little boy Benjamin.”

The winning midwife said: “After hearing about my award, I felt so honoured and my heart was filled with joy.

"I was so proud of Clair and her family and found it difficult to articulate just how much this meant to me and the service I provide for such a courageous group of women.”

The RCM’s Annual Awards, now in its 14th year, will be hosted by news and TV presenter and mother-of-two, Kate Silverton, on Tuesday, March 8.

Kim Morley will join the six other regional winners at a central London awards ceremony, where she will collect her trophy and find out who will be crowned the overall national winner.
