A fraudster who conned an elderly Worcester Park resident out of nearly £5,000 is being hunted by police.

A man called at the pensioner's home, in Bedford Road, claiming that his drains needed to be repaired and a back-garden manhole cover inspected.

He told the 83-year-old man that £4,800-worth of specialist machinery would be needed to fix the damage, Sutton police said. During the visit, the resident found his upstairs toilet had flooded.

The caller gave the pensioner a lift to Sutton town centre where he withdrew money from his bank. He asked the victim to say that the money was for friends or a relative, and not for building repair work.

When the cash was withdrawn the fraudster dropped the man at his home and drove away.

Police have released images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the fraud.
