A young Epsom artist is displaying her paintings of the local area for the first time.

Grace Ellen, 22, of Whiterose Drive, is exhibiting a series of paintings based on rivers and lakes from around the Epsom area.

Paintings include areas along the River Mole, from Box Hill to Leatherhead, as well as the River Wey and the River Test.

Miss Ellen, who also paints on commission, said: "I really like being able to get on a train or bus and escape from everything human and manmade, into somewhere completely natural.

"It’s a nice way to catch up with friends, or to get out on a walk and just have some thinking time.

"I’ve painted places that people will have been, and places that people know and love."

She plans to base her next series of paintings on views from hills and other high up places, and would also like to start painting coasts and cliffs.

Miss Ellen recently completed a foundation degree at the University of Creative Arts in Epsom, after graduating from an animal behaviour degree at Exeter University.

Although she originally planned on getting into wildlife photography, she was inspired by painting during her degree and is now taking her first steps as a self-employed artist.

Her paintings will be for available for viewing and purchase at The Ebbisham Centre in Derby Square, Epsom, until Sunday, August 30.
