A man died of a suspected heart attack at Leith Hill near Dorking during yesterday's Ride London.

The 55-year-old collapsed during the lower part of the ascent during the 100-mile race. He received immediate medical attention but died at the scene. The air ambulance was called.

The London and Surrey Cycling Partnership said: "We would like to express our sincere condolences to his family and friends."

Riders including Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish passed through Richmond, Kingston, Elmbridge, Epsom, Wimbledon and Wandsworth during the race.

Jean Pierre Drucker, from Luxembourg, won the Surrey Classic race, a 200-km variation on the 2012 Olympic route, similar to the London-Surrey 100.
