A family trio will be taking to the road to cycle from London to Paris in memory of grandfather Pat Williams this September.

Steve Williams, of Ewell, his sister Karen Tuffs, and her son Jamie have been training ever since signing up to the challenge in January.

They will be raising money for the Princess Alice Hospice which took care of their beloved grandfather last summer before he died.

The family team have already raised £4,700 for the charity in memory of Mr Williams, of Chessington.

Ms Tuff said: "Dad was the inspiration for Steve and I to take up sport, since Dad had a long career as a sports groundsman and a football referee.

"Our memories of Dad's last few weeks are very special, made possible by the kind and caring people at Princess Alice Hospice.

"Simple gestures such as the nurses wheeling Dad's bed into the courtyard so he could smell the fresh air and see the flowers meant so much to all of us.

"We were quite simply knocked out by everyone we met and how they looked after not only Dad but the whole family.

"We all felt we wanted to be able to give something back and this event is something our Dad, as a keen sportsman, would be very proud of us all for undertaking."
