The boss of a charity which supports families with seriously ill children has raised £8,000 for its work by shaving her head.

Heather Wood, chief executive officer at Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity, based in Cleeve Road, Leatherhead, lost her locks last month in honour of all the families the charity supports and her nephew who has cancer.

She said: "I have undertaken a number of challenges during my time at Rainbow Trust including a wing walk and a skydive.

"This year I wanted to do something personal in a bid to raise as much money as possible.

"Over the years I have seen many families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness.

"The effects can be devastating but having some support at this difficult time can be invaluable.

"I wanted to play my part and do something to help Rainbow Trust strive closer to its goal to offer help to all 6,000 families in England with a seriously ill child."

Ms Wood has so fair raised £8,578.
