A pervert doctor who was considered one of the leaders in his field has been struck off the medical register following a fit-to-practise hearing.

Dr Lam Hoe Yeoh, 62, from Banstead, was taken off the medical register following revelations he had been secretly filming patients and colleagues in toilets.

Dr Yeoh, who practised at St Anthony's Hospital in Cheam and St Helier Hospital, was jailed last November after he pleaded guilty at Croydon Crown Court to six counts of making indecent photographs of a child, seven voyeurism offences and one of possessing extreme pornography.

The Malaysian-born doctor was only discovered when one of his hidden cameras came loose in the toilet and was found by a female member of staff.

On the camera was footage of him inadvertantly recording himself as he fitted the device.

Hundreds of videos of footage of the more than 1,000 victims, including that of a three-year-old girl, were stored on the doctor's NHS and home computers and hard drives.

During a search of his offices, car and Banstead home in Garratts Lane, 21 recording devices were found inside watches, pens and boxes allocated for hearing devices.

In addition to being struck off the register, Dr Yeoh has been indefinitely placed of the sex offenders register.

The Medical Practitioners Tribual Service panel, chaired by Michele Codd, in April, cited a number of reasons why Dr Yeoh would be struck off the register.

They said: "The sophisticated nature of the voyeurism with the purchase and use of multiple covert devices of which many were recovered by the police, over 20, and thereafter the downloading, saving and copying and editing of the footage.

"The location of the offences; namely work places, train lavatories, your own home, the period over which the offences were committed and as I say the sheer scale of the voyeurism, the recording and saving of voyeuristic footage of colleagues and friends.

"I am completely satisfied that you come within the terms of a dangerous offender as so defined.

"The sheer scale and the period over which these offences were committed, their gravity, the ingrained and compulsive addictive behaviour demonstrated by the offences is a significantly important feature when determining this."

Dr Yeoh is serving a eight-year sentence at HMP High Down, Banstead.
