A cat had to be rescued by firefighters after getting itself wedged in a car's engine outside a home in Leatherhead.

Firefighters from Leatherhead were called to Cressall Mead just after 9pm on Friday, May 15, after the pet could not get out of the tight space.

It is thought the black cat climbed up inside an engine compartment, as firefighters found the animal squeezed between the radiator and front grill of the car.

A firefighter from Leatherhead said on arrival, the owner of the car and the cat's owner were discussing what was best for the cat without causing too much damage to the car.

The crew spent 45 minutes helping to free the cat, who did not suffer any injuries.
