Liberal Democrats in Mole Valley expressed sadness at general election prospects as verification of ballot papers dragged on at the count.
Sir Paul Beresford, Mole Valley’s MP since 1997, has run against Liberal Democrat Paul Kennedy, Labour’s Len Amos, the Green’s Jacquetta Fewster and UKIP’s Paul Oakley.
The exit poll suggests that the Lib Dems will get 10 MPs, down from 57, while the Tories would have the biggest party in the commons, but not a majority, with 316.
At 1.10am Liberal Democrat candidate Paul Kennedy said the verification is still taking place down at the count in Mole Valley and results are expected at about 4.30am.
Mr Kennedy said: “I’m disappointed by what the results seem to be nationally, but it’s still early. We wait to see.”
Of the exit poll, he said: “If that’s true that’s very sad for the Liberal Democrats and sad for democracy as well.”

The exit poll has suggested that Labour will get 239, UKIP two, the Greens two, the SNP 58 and Plaid Cymru four.
Conservatives have managed to hold onto Battersea despite fierce campaigning by Labour in that part of London.
