A producer is raising money to complete the creation of his futuristic thriller film which features a fly drone with a camera in its head.

Kyran Speirs, 36, who grew up in Tattenham Corner, Epsom, helped set up the company Flat Cap films which specialises in creating high-tech adverts and music videos.

The latest project it is trying to fund a short film called Flyspy.

The science fiction thriller is about a young genius called Greg, who has made a wirelessly controlled robot drone in the form of a fly, with a camera in its head.

Mr Speirs said: "The film is entertaining but is also a warning about what can happen when new technology falls into the wrong hands."

He said a number of people are currently working on the film for free and it already has the backing of post-production house Halo, VFX company Jellyfish, as well as drones designed by concept artist Jake Lunt, who is also working on the latest Star Wars movie.

He said: "It is great to have these companies on board who are working for free because they believe in the project.

"We hope the film will eventually be taken to all the major film festivals including Cannes, London and Berlin."

The film will be produced by Mr Speirs and directed by BAFTA award-winner Dan Smith, who won for his work on David Attenborough’s Natural History Museum Alive 3D.

"Normally a film like Flyspy would cost about £200,000 to make but because so many people are working for free out of passion for the project we are aiming to raise £15,000 via our kickstarter campaign for food, locations and travel expenses amongst others."

He continued: "We love where the industry is going. I am extremely excited about it but we need more backing.

"There are gifts for donating certain amounts ranging from key rings and baseball caps to concept art by Jake Lunt."

The campaign has so far raised £6,452 toward the £15,000 target.
