It was a record-breaking year with stunning bright yellow Daffodils among the hundreds of entries from exhibitors of all ages.

Blooms in blue, pink and yellows wowed judges who were impressed with the array of entries – the most the Epsom Garden Society Spring Show has ever seen.

Among the winners at yesterday’s show was Chris Beere who scooped three trophies in total for his exquisite Daffodils, an overall show cup and the best pot plant prize for an Amaryllis.

Karolina Whitehead won the floral art cup and Jill Doubble walked away with the food and craft cup for her home-made marmalade, curds and chutneys.

The floral scent of the carefully prepared displays filled the hall with a divine smell according to show secretary Jill Farnham.

Ms Farnham said: “It was a very good show with a record for entries.

“The children came up trumps and we had 30 entries from them.”

Children aged from about five years-old to 14 years-old took a lot of care over their entries, joining 30 adults to submit displays on the day.

Ms Farnham added: “It is a very active club.

“If we did not have this support we would not have a show.”

As well as the flower show, up to 300 people passed through the doors of St Martin's Junior School to enjoy tea and coffee and a popular plant sale.

The summer show will be held on June 27.
