Firemen had to smash a car window to rescue a grandfather locked in a Mini Cooper last week.
Firefighters from Banstead fire station were called to free the elderly man who was trapped in a car in Elm Road, Ewell, at 10.40am on Thursday.
A crew commander said the elderly man’s daughter accidentally locked him in the car when she went to pick up dogs to take them for a walk.
The daughter collected the dogs from her own daughter's house but left something behind so went back inside again.
The crew commander said: "Foolishly she left the keys in the house and pulled the door to. She was locked out of the house and locked out of the car.
He said: "We broke one of the passenger rear windows to gain access. A firefighter had to climb in there and calm the gentleman down."
Firefighters then waited for BMW Assist, a roadside assistance service, who also could not open the doors which were dead locked.
In the end, the man's grandaughter came home and fetched the car keys from the house.
