A chef who once worked under restaurateur Marco Pierre White is now passing on her cooking skills to young children.

Jayne McGhee, from Epsom, has set up an educational food business, called Grow Cook Enjoy, and is already working with students at Stamford Green Primary School.

When asked about working under Marco Pierre White, she said: "He’s amazing. I don’t think I have met many geniuses in my life but I would consider him to be one."

Ms McGhee now wants to pass on her passion for cooking as well as the skills she honed at restaurants such as the Canteen, Chelsea Harbour and the Restaurant, Hyde Park Hotel.

She said: "Working in Michelin-starred restaurants is very busy and very stressful with lots of time pressures. I gained a passion for cooking good food with quality ingredients.

"It was very rewarding. It gave me a good grounding in how to cook, how recipes work and consistency, making things really well, again and again, as well as working as part of a team.

"My programme working with children will also offer to them life-long skills such as co-operation with others sharing and working together, resilience, responsibility and patience."

Grow Cook Enjoy offers lessons on how to plant, grow, harvest and cook food. It also looks at food safety, the origins of food and the importance of healthy eating.
