Masked robbers attacked a man, stole his keys, and drove off in his £50,000 Mercedes last night.

The men went up to the victim in his 20s as he attended to his grey car in Gatley Avenue in West Ewell at about 11pm last night.

The robbers, who were all black, demanded his keys, attacked him and took his Mercedes. He was left cut and bruised.

Detective Constable Michael Queally said: "Although we are still in the very early stages of the investigation into this incident we believe this could be a targeted offence and I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the theft to contact officers with information.

"It is very possible that the stolen vehicle is now travelling or parked using false number plates, I would therefore appeal to anyone who has seen a car matching this description parked up in suspicious circumstances to report this to police."

The stolen Mercedes CLS 350's registration number is WF61 WZU.

DC Queally said: "If you own a car which is of the same make and model and have had your number plates recently stolen but may have not reported this to police please do so.

"Detectives are working very closely with the Epsom and Ewell Safer Neighbourhood Team and the local community following this incident and we are doing all we can to bring those responsible to justice.

"We still have a number of enquiries to make following this report to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident."
